What Is Good Leadership?

Good question, no?

I’ve been thinking a lot about this myself. What is good leadership and what does it take to be a good leader?

To be honest, and I’m going completely transparent here, I have never really been in a leadership role.

As a sensitive, introverted person (who hates attention), I have never really craved the spotlight. I just kind of coasted my whole life, doing what I’ve been told to do, making money to live and pay bills. You know, just an ordinary life.

leadershipWell, that doesn’t work for me anymore; I want to be seen, I want to be heard.

So how does one switch from a life of behind the scenes to a life on stage?

Honestly, I don’t know.

What a perfect opportunity to coach myself! I would usually say ‘I don’t know’ is a false statement. We actually know the truth deep within ourselves. But in this particular case, I haven’t done the deep work, but that ends now!

Fear is an obvious perpetrator here. My need to not be seen can be traced directly back to a sense of unworthiness.

What if I’m not good enough?

UGH. That sentence sends chills down my spine.

As humans, we tend to have this ego-driven thought that we are in fact, not worthy of our desires, wants, and needs. Clearly, it’s false, and that’s the hurdle to get through in order to get yourself on stage and be the star of your life.

As far as leadership goes, I’m not ready to define it because I am learning as I go. But what I can say, and what is working personally for me, is….

That’s it. Just show up. And when you show up, show up as your highest self. You know, the REAL you.

Leadership is complex. WAY more to come!
