Work DOES Have A Spiritual Component To It

“You’re not supposed to like what you do.” That’s what I heard growing up. It’s also what I believed to be true…

UNTIL NOW.

Not only did I learn it was not true, it’s actually the opposite; it will spiritually benefit you if you do what you love.

Can I get a heck yes?!?

The American work week is 40-hours. If you think about it that is a 168 hours in a week, and if you sleep 8 hours a night, 7 days a week, you’d sleep 56 of those hours. This leaves, in total, after work and sleep, 72 hours a week to yourself.

Seventy two hours for leisure fun time isn’t terrible, but what if you could have those 40 hours back for something you enjoy as well? Can work be FUN?

I was just talking to a good friend of mine about having passion at work. Can you actually have PASSION for every single thing you do? I mean even if you open the business of your dreams, you still may have to do the marketing, payroll, sales, (insert anything you don’t actually like doing).

Yes, this part is true. BUT the passion for the work is actually what gets you through it.

Think about it. Would you run into a burning building if your mother was in there? How about a sack of potatoes.

I do like potatoes...

You get the point. If you TRULY want something, you will stop at nothing to get it.

Now, here’s the harder question: What do you truly want?

Here’s where spirituality steps in. Spirituality is actually a HUGE component to the work that you do.

There are many meanings to the word spirituality, but the one that comes to mind here is: Connecting mind, body, spirit.

What type of career/job/passion project caters to all three?

Think about it. If you wanted to be part of something bigger, and for example work for a non-profit (satisfying the mind), would you be happy if it was long hours in an office with no windows (can affect spirit)? Sitting all day (can affect body)? Balance is everything.

So much to think about when it comes to what works with work (HAHAHA, I crack myself up sometimes).
